Barrier lake forms after Gyirong mudslide in Xizang
A powerful mudslide struck Gyirong County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on August 26 . The powerful geohazard also blocked the transboundary river channel, creating a dangerous barrier lake and adding severe secondary disaster risks to ongoing rescue operations.
[Cable News] The death toll on the Tibetan side has risen to 16, with 546 people still missing, including over 260 foreigners. The Tibet Autonomous Region government stated that the disaster is located above the core area of the affected region.
The rescue work in Tibet after the deadly flood in the border area to Nepal was interrupted on Sunday because a new lake was formed as a result of a landslide.
