Twins Place LHP Kendry Rojas on the 15-Day Injured List because of Elbow Inflammation
The rookie left-hander has a 1.26 ERA in 14.1 innings but joins three other Twins starters on the injured list.
The Minnesota Twins placed left-handed pitcher Kendry Rojas on the 15-day injured list Friday due to elbow inflammation, retroactive to Tuesday, after he was scratched from a scheduled start Thursday.
Acquired by the Twins in the Louis Varland trade with the Blue Jays last summer, the young Cuban prospect features a big-time fastball and offspeed pitches while continuing to develop command of his arsenal.
Rojas joins Pablo Lopez, David Festa, and Mick Abel as Minnesota starters currently on the injured list, with Lopez out for the season while Festa and Abel lack clear return timetables.
To fill the gap, the Twins optioned right-hander Travis Adams to Triple-A St. Paul, reinstated righty Cody Laweryson from the 15-day IL, and recalled left-hander Kody Funderburk to the roster.
While Minnesota's ace Joe Ryan has avoided missing time despite injury scares this year, the Twins recently saw Taj Bradley return shortly after the 15-day minimum ahead of the Pittsburgh series.
