'Another Challenge': Canadiens Facing Elimination in Game 5 of East Final
The Canadiens have been held to 12, 13 and 18 shots in three straight losses as Carolina takes a 3-1 series lead.
On Friday, the Montreal Canadiens face elimination in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C., with the winner advancing to the Stanley Cup Final.
Carolina has won three straight clashes, most recently a 4-0 victory on Wednesday, while Montreal lost three consecutive games for the first time since November. The Hurricanes have forged an incredible 11-1 post-season record.
Montreal has been held to 18 shots or fewer in each of the last three games. Historically, teams trailing 3-1 in a best-of-seven series have won only 32 of 361 instances in NHL history.
Canadiens forward Alex Newhook said, "They're making it hard on us for sure, but we've got to find more answers." Head coach Martin St. Louis emphasized, "We'll put our best foot forward for Game 5."
Should the Canadiens succeed, Game 6 would be played Sunday night at the Bell Centre. Centre Phillip Danault noted, "You don't want to act like it's over and pack it up.
