The other 20 political prisoners recently released from Belarus arrived in Lithuania, a spokesman for the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Svetlana Tihanovskia.
The authoritarian leader in Belarus, Alexander Lukaschenka, set 123 political prisoners free on Saturday and had them deported. Among the pardoned are the political activist Maryja Kalesnikawa, the former presidential candidate Wiktar Babaryka and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ales Beljatski. The US had previously announced the lifting of its sanctions against the Belarusian potassium industry.
Lithuania welcomes more recently released Belarusian political prisoners. Belarusian opposition calls for new leadership of pro-democracy movement.
