RSPCA Figures Reveal Rise in Reports of Cruelty to Animals This Summer Across Buckinghamshire
On Tuesday, new RSPCA figures revealed a 68 per cent rise in animal cruelty reports in Oxfordshire, the largest increase recorded anywhere in England as part of the Cruelty Hurts Love Rescues campaign.
Across England and Wales, the RSPCA recorded a massive 64 per cent annual increase in cruelty reports during summer months over five years, with the charity receiving one call every 10 minutes when lines are open.
RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson noted animal abuse is increasingly linked to domestic violence; in one case, kitten Chester was rescued after attacks by his owner's partner, a move that 'saved Chester's life.'
To support victims, the RSPCA launched a website help page with safety features including an exit button that redirects to Google; the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline is available on 0808 2000 247.
With World Cup emotions and increased alcohol intake potentially exacerbating domestic and animal abuse, the RSPCA warns the upward trend may continue, urging the public to donate to support rescue efforts.
