Ukraine Opens Probe After Crowds Attack Army Conscription Vehicle
Ukraine opened a criminal investigation after about 200 civilians surrounded, damaged and overturned a conscription vehicle during a mobilization check, prosecutors said.
On Wednesday evening, a crowd in Lviv's Sykhiv district surrounded and overturned a Territorial Recruitment Center vehicle after officers detained a man wanted for military registration violations.
Criminal proceedings were initiated for obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces and using violence against police, with authorities investigating the incident involving around 200 civilians.
The Ministry denounced the incident as "unacceptable," warning that "hate speech directed at our own army will lead to irreversible consequences" while acknowledging mobilization processes require improvement.
Lviv Regional Military Administration head Maksym Kozytskyi announced internal reviews to assess whether servicemen acted lawfully, urging residents to "remain calm, act wisely, and remember who our real enemy is."
Ukraine has experienced over 100 such clashes between citizens and conscription police this year, reflecting rising public tensions over the indefinite military service system amid ongoing war.
