Angels Fire Perry Minasian, Hire John Mozeliak as Interim GM
John Mozeliak will oversee baseball operations as the Angels seek a new general manager after another losing season.
The Los Angeles Angels fired general manager Perry Minasian on Friday, appointing former St. Louis Cardinals executive John Mozeliak as a consultant to oversee day-to-day baseball operations and assist in the search for a new general manager.
Since Minasian replaced Billy Eppler in 2020, the franchise has made no discernible progress under owner Arte Moreno. The team is barreling toward its 11th consecutive losing season.
The Angels are tied for the worst record in the American League at 34-48, having lost a franchise-record 99 games in 2024. The team never won more than 77 games during Minasian's tenure.
Managerial instability plagued the organization as Minasian clashed with Joe Maddon early in his tenure, leading to his firing. Minasian later hired first-time manager Kurt Suzuki last fall with the acknowledgment that their fates were tied.
Team president Molly Jolly and Mozeliak are scheduled to speak at a news conference on Saturday. Whoever succeeds Minasian will become the Angels' fourth full-time general manager since 2012.
