Android Auto Now Fits Weirdly Shaped Screens and Streams Video While Parked

The update introduces Immersive Navigation in Google Maps, featuring detailed 3D buildings, elevated roadways, and real-time lane guidance. Material 3 Expressive design brings springy animations and bold fonts to the dashboard, creating a more modern appearance.
Starting later this year, compatible vehicles will support full HD 60fps video playback on apps like YouTube while parked, transitioning to audio-only mode when driving begins. Dolby Atmos spatial audio support arrives in supported cars.
Deeply integrated Gemini AI will proactively manage tasks via Magic Cue, suggesting one-tap replies to messages or placing food orders through DoorDash while driving. The assistant also answers contextual questions about vehicle information.
These enhancements, including customizable widgets, will roll out throughout 2026 across brands including BMW, Ford, and Volvo. The redesign aims to make Android Auto more proactive than reactive, helping drivers focus on the road.
