Andie MacDowell, Kevin Bacon Cast in 'Beach Read' Film Adaptation
The cast expands as the 2020 bestseller’s adaptation moves forward, with Yulin Kuang directing and three other Emily Henry novels also in development.
- Andie MacDowell and Kevin Bacon have joined the cast of 20th Century Studios' adaptation of Emily Henry's New York Times bestselling novel Beach Read, joining previously announced leads Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
- Directed by Yulin Kuang, the story follows romance writer January Andrews and Augustus "Gus" Everett, two creatively stuck writers who challenge each other to swap literary genres while living in neighboring Michigan beach houses.
- With production set to begin next month, Phoebe Dynevor portrays January Andrews and Patrick Schwarzenegger plays Gus Everett, with producer Neal H. Moritz overseeing the project via Original Films.
- When addressing the mixed response, Henry said, "Sit back and let it unfold. It is our baby—the readers' and my baby—but it's also the filmmakers' baby and the studio's baby, and I."
- This adaptation is the latest of Henry's novels entering production, with Book Lovers, Funny Story, and Happy Place also currently in development as films, positioning her as a major force in the adaptation market.
