An ‘unforgettable’ Dolly Parton concert in Kent 10 years ago
The Pure & Simple Tour stop sold 6,000 tickets in two hours, and fans later called Dolly Parton’s Kent performance unforgettable.
Country music icon Dolly Parton died Tuesday, August 25 at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee; the ShoWare Center in Kent remembered her 2016 performance as "unforgettable."
The ShoWare venue sold out its 6,000 tickets for the Pure and Simple Tour in two hours after sales opened April 29, 2016, an event Kent officials called a major economic coup.
Original ticket prices ranged from $39.50 to $125, while resale demand pushed values as high as $874, with secondary tickets selling for at least $231.
Facebook comments from attendees described the concert experience as "amazing," and fans considered the performance well worth the cost, cementing her reputation locally.
Throughout her career, Parton secured 10 Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, with a legacy including hits like "Jolene" , "9 to 5" , and "I Will Always Love You" .
