The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition Has Launched
The Legacy Edition adds 60 frames per second support, UI upgrades and co-op play as Aspyr brings back the 2011 action RPG.
- On Tuesday, Aspyr Media surprise-dropped the Legacy Edition of the action RPG The Lord of the Rings: War in the North for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
- Originally released in 2011, this RPG blends Tolkien novels and Peter Jackson films. While Frodo and Sam journey to Mount Doom, players control heroes waging war against Sauron in the North.
- Boasting 60 FPS support on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, the remaster contrasts sharply with the original's tepid 61 Metacritic score on Xbox and 66 on Windows.
- Unavailable digitally since 2019, the game's return to modern hardware marks Aspyr Media's continued effort to restore classic titles for contemporary platforms. This expands the publisher's growing catalog of beloved franchise restorations.
- Aspyr teased, "Fans can look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future!" Producer Ruth Tomandl told GameSpot, "we really get the best of all possible worlds.
