Worker Dies After Getting Stuck in Industrial Oven at Cereal Factory, Police Say
- On Thursday, June 26, emergency responders including police, firefighters, and EMS attended to an incident at a cereal manufacturing facility in Perryville, Missouri, where a man was discovered trapped inside an industrial oven.
- A 38-year-old man named Nicolas Lopez Gomez, originally from Guatemala and using the name Edward Avila at work, became trapped inside an industrial oven while reportedly operating a power washer on the exterior of the machine.
- Emergency responders were able to reach Gomez, but he was declared dead at the location, and investigators have not yet determined how he came to be inside the deactivated machine.
- Perry County Coroner Meghan Ellis stated that OSHA has been contacted and will investigate the incident, with no suspicion of foul play at this time.
