DELHI, JUL 13 – Delhi Police detained e-rickshaw driver Kusum Pal after 19 glass panels shattered and scattered along a one-kilometre stretch of the Kanwar Yatra route, police said.
- On Monday in Meerut, a school bus lightly struck three kanwariyas returning from Haridwar, resulting in minor injuries and provoking pilgrims to vandalize the bus and assault the driver.
- The incident occurred amid the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage, which involves devotees carrying Ganga water on foot, with police and officials promptly informed and deployed to manage the situation.
- All those injured, who hail from Jatauli village in Dhaulpur, Rajasthan, were hospitalized; meanwhile, authorities cleared the affected road within two hours, and the Crime Branch initiated an investigation.
- Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra and CM Rekha Gupta took cognizance of multiple related incidents, including glass shards scattered along about a kilometre of the Kanwar route, with Mishra stating miscreants had caused this disruption.
- The events indicate heightened tensions during the pilgrimage, but police stress no communal angle exists and assure stringent action to prevent disruption and ensure the Kanwar Yatra continues safely.
