Oxford University Handed £4.5m Funding From UK Government

UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 16 – The plan includes six key initiatives and over £2 billion funding to accelerate research, improve patient care, and create 300,000 jobs across the UK, officials said.

  • The UK government unveiled the Life Sciences Sector Plan, setting a ten-year mission to harness British science and innovation to boost the economy and strengthen a prevention-focused NHS.
  • Valued at around £100 billion and employing over 300,000 people, the sector’s growth plan follows the NHS 10-year health plan unveiled earlier this month.
  • Backed by over £2 billion in government funding, the plan allocates up to £600 million for a Health Data Research Service and up to £520 million for domestic manufacturing projects.
  • Nicola Perrin MBE, Chief Executive, Association of Medical Research Charities, said “We’re pleased to see life sciences recognised as a priority sector for the UK,” adding that it is a triple win for the economy, the NHS and patients.
  • Aiming to make the UK a European life sciences leader, Prof Andrew Morris said “With over £2bn of funding and clear accountability mechanisms, this plan provides actionable commitments that can drive economic growth, improve the UK’s standing on a world stage and transform health equity.
