US Midfielder Gio Reyna Joins French Club Strasbourg From Mönchengladbach
Strasbourg paid €3 million for the U.S. midfielder, who is set to sign a five-year deal after limited playing time in Germany.
On Monday, Strasbourg finalized a deal to bring USMNT midfielder Gio Reyna to Ligue 1, paying the German side £3 million for the 23-year-old who signed a five-year contract.
Reyna departs after spending one season with Borussia Monchengladbach, where he scored one goal, following his time at Borussia Dortmund and a loan spell at Nottingham Forest during the 2023/2024 season.
The son of Claudio Reyna, the midfielder joined the New York City academy before debuting for Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and playing 16 Bundesliga matches after his loan return.
Fresh off a productive World Cup campaign, Reyna featured in every game under coach Mauricio Pochettino, including scoring a goal against Paraguay, as the USMNT was one of the most-watched teams.
Strasbourg, the sister club of Chelsea, finished eighth last season and missed out on European play, hoping this acquisition strengthens their roster for improved Ligue 1 standing.
The former great hope of Borussia Dortmund Giovanni Reyna completes the seventh recruit of the RC Strasbourg on Tuesday in a transfer of 3 million euros.
