AMD's Threadripper Halo Is a Local-AI Workstation for Researchers with Deep Pockets
The workstation can support up to four enterprise GPUs and is aimed at running large AI models locally, AMD said.
- At IFA, AMD unveiled the Threadripper Halo, a liquid-cooled workstation featuring a 96-core Threadripper Pro and two enterprise-grade MI350P GPUs.
- Designed for researchers, the system competes with Nvidia's DGX Station by offering up to 576 GB of HBM3e memory to run AI models exceeding a trillion parameters locally.
- Each accelerator includes 144 GB of HBM3e memory with 4 TB/s bandwidth and up to 4.6 petaFLOPS of FP4 compute, though the configuration requires a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
- Alongside the hardware, AMD announced Microsoft's Project Zenith, a developer-focused version of Windows; AMD SVP and General Manager Jack Huynh called it "the most powerful workstation in the world."
- Set to launch next year, the system lacks official pricing, though analysts expect it to cost between $100,000 and $150,000 depending on configuration and supporting up to four GPUs.

AMD appears to be interpreting the term "personal computer" somewhat more broadly at IFA 2026.
