Summary by techpowerup.com
At Computex 2026, we had the opportunity to interview AMD's Chief Software Officer, Andrej Zdravkovic, and Terry Makedon, Senior Director of Software at AMD, to discuss various developments happening in AMD's labs. One of our questions focused on the FSR 4.1 Upscaling algorithm, which is currently exclusive to the RDNA 4 generation with the Radeon RX 9000 series of graphics cards. At the Computex 2026 we had a conversation with David McAfee, the Corporate VP and General Manager of the client division at AMD.

As part of the Computex 2026, AMD explained why FSR 4.1 only appeared on the Radeon RX 7000 in July: Upscaling expects INT8 instead of FP8. Despite the modification, the image quality should be identical to the Radeon RX 9000.

AMD wanted to clarify one of the great doubts surrounding FSR 4.1 in the Radeon RX 7000 GPU: if this version for RDNA 3 will be really comparable to that already enjoyed by Radeon RX 9000 based on RDNA 4, or if it will be a cut-off version. According to TechPowerUp, in the Computex 2026 AMD would have confirmed that its objective is to offer image quality parity between the two architectures, although the technical path to achieving it is differ…
