AMD, Cisco and Saudi's Humain launch AI joint venture, land first major customer
The joint venture will start with a 100-megawatt Saudi data center contracted by Luma AI and aims to expand to 1 gigawatt by 2030 using renewable energy.
- On Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices, Cisco Systems and Humain announced a joint venture to build data centres in the Middle East and secured their first customer, CEOs told Reuters.
- The joint venture grew from deals struck after U.S. President Donald Trump's Riyadh visit, with Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund backing Humain for data centre buildouts due to abundant property and cheap power.
- Humain contracted to supply a 100-megawatt cluster in Saudi Arabia, and Amin said `They will be the first customer of this cluster` as Luma AI purchased the full capacity.
- Executives said Humain will lead the venture while Advanced Micro Devices supplies MI450 AI chips and Cisco Systems provides networking equipment and salesforce support.
- The joint venture aims to serve roughly 4.5 billion people across Asia, Europe, India, Middle East and Africa, with plans for up to 1 GW by 2030 and a renewable-powered first stage in 2026, while Humain is receiving purchase orders and construction has not yet begun.
