AMD Plans To Invest Billions In Taiwan For AI Chips - Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD)
AMD said the spending will expand partnerships with Taiwanese firms to improve performance, efficiency and faster deployment of AI systems.
On Thursday, Advanced Micro Devices Inc announced an investment of more than $10 billion into Taiwan's semiconductor and AI ecosystem to expand strategic partnerships and scale advanced packaging capabilities for AI infrastructure.
AMD is collaborating with Taiwan-based ASE and Siliconware Precision Industries on advanced chip-linking technology to improve performance efficiency for next-generation AI infrastructure.
The company's investments will support deployment of Helios, its AI server system, in the second half of 2026, with partners including Sanmina, Wiwynn, Wistron, and Inventec assisting in building the hardware.
Seeking to step up competition against Nvidia, AMD has benefited from heavy spending on AI infrastructure, with shares doubling this year as Nvidia reported blowout earnings on Wednesday.
Governments and tech giants are pouring billions into data centers to power AI, though the International Energy Agency projects electricity consumption from these facilities will double by 2030, prompting environmental concerns.
