AMD acquiring Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs AI firm in deal worth $8.2 billion

- Today, Advanced Micro Devices announced a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, an AI research startup led by Fei-Fei, in a transaction valued at $8.2 billion.
- San Francisco-based World Labs develops Spatial intelligence models that reason how the 3D world works, following a $1 billion funding round earlier this year.
- Fei-Fei will join Advanced Micro Devices as executive vice president and chief scientist, strengthening the company's ability to develop AI-optimized CPUs and GPUs for emerging models.
- The acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2026, giving Advanced Micro Devices deeper insight into evolving AI workloads to shape future technology roadmaps.
- "Building the compute platforms for the next generation of AI requires a deep understanding of how models are evolving," said Lisa, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices.
