BREAKING: Ambala NH-44 Clash Turns Violent, DSP Among Police Personnel Injured

Ambala witnessed a dramatic escalation late Thursday as a highway protest turned into a violent confrontation between police and demonstrators. National Highway 44 remained blocked for nearly six hours, creating major traffic disruption on one of Haryana’s busiest routes. The protest began after Sikh groups gathered over the arrest of two youths and raised demands connected to the recent Gursimran Singh Mand case. Police officials held several rounds of discussions with protesters and appealed for the highway to be cleared. However, the blockade continued despite repeated negotiations. As darkness fell, the situation became increasingly tense and police moved to disperse the gathering. Security personnel fired tear gas shells and used lathicharge to push protesters away from the highway. During the operation, several police officers were reportedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons. DSP Virender Sharma suffered a severe injury to his thumb, while other police personnel also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities said armed elements within the crowd allegedly attacked officers and obstructed efforts to move vehicles from the blocked highway. Police also expressed concern after a gas tanker became trapped amid the blockade. After a prolonged operation, traffic movement on NH-44 was restored at around 9:15 pm. A heavy police presence remained at the location as officials worked to stabilize the situation and identify those allegedly involved in the attacks.
