'Project Hail Mary' Streams June 18 on MGM+
The film will stream on MGM+ after a 90-day theatrical run before moving to Prime Video.
On Thursday, June 18, the sci-fi hit Project Hail Mary will make its streaming debut exclusively on MGM+, bypassing Prime Video despite Amazon ownership of both platforms.
Amazon MGM Studios utilized different greenlight models for its film slate; Project Hail Mary followed a full theatrical window including PVOD, with MGM+ designated as the pay-one platform.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film grossed more than $680M worldwide while earning a 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Accessing the film requires an MGM+ subscription costing $7.99 monthly, though viewers can add the service to their existing Prime Video app to watch at home.
The film stands a strong chance at Best Picture nomination when next year's Oscars arrive, while author Andy Weir stated he 'might write a sequel someday,' though it is not currently in development.
