Amazon Joins the AI Health Assistant Movement

Amazon launched Health AI inside the One Medical app on Wednesday after testing it with a subset of One Medical members last Spring; One Medical was acquired by Amazon for $3.9 billion in 2023.
As Amazon expanded its pharmacy and health-monitoring services, it moved to embed AI in primary care, joining OpenAI and Anthropic in launching healthcare AI features earlier this month.
Using Amazon Bedrock LLMs, Health AI answers questions, explains lab results, manages medications, includes the `analyze images` capability, and uses clinical escalation protocols to involve One Medical clinicians.
Offering 24/7 personalized guidance, Health AI is available inside the One Medical app to members and Amazon said it does not require document uploads or add conversations to medical records.
Amid privacy concerns, Amazon said Health AI `complements, not replaces` clinicians and `understands your medical context without requiring you to manually upload your personal information`, while stressing HIPAA safeguards and that it is not for diagnosis or treatment.
