Amazon expands Anthropic partnership with $100B cloud deal and $25B investment
Anthropic will run Claude on Amazon chips and give AWS customers direct access to its platform as the companies expand their AI infrastructure push.
- Amazon and Anthropic announced an expanded partnership this week, with Anthropic committing more than $100 billion over the next 10 years to Amazon Web Services infrastructure to train and power advanced AI models.
- Deepening its investment, Amazon committed an immediate $5 billion and up to $20 billion more, building on roughly $8 billion already invested. "Our custom AI silicon offers high performance at significantly lower cost," Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said.
- AWS customers will gain direct access to the full Claude platform within existing accounts, while models run on Amazon's Trainium and Graviton processors. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the partnership helps "keep pace" with rising usage.
- In February, the Trump administration ordered U.S. agencies to stop using Anthropic's technology, with President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accusing the company of endangering national security. Anthropic refused to back down.
- Valued at $380 billion, Anthropic positions itself alongside rivals OpenAI and SpaceX in the AI infrastructure race. The company targets $14 billion in sales over the next year amid growing industry demand.
