Netflix's New Cinderella-Inspired Film Confirms Mamma Mia Star as Beloved Heroine
Netflix’s animated reimagining centers on the stepsisters, with Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu voicing the leads and Amy Poehler among the producers.
- Academy Award-nominated actress Amanda Seyfried has joined the voice cast of Netflix's animated film Steps, taking on the lead role of Cinderella in this reimagining of the classic fairytale.
- Directed by Alyce Tzue and co-director John Ripa, the film tells the story from the perspective of Cinderella's "misunderstood" stepsisters, Lilith and Margot .
- Tzue praised Seyfried's "incredible ability to make her characters specific and relatable," while Ripa added that her vocal control brings "a depth and humor we could've never imagined" to Cinderella.
- Producers Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell, and Kim Lessing represent Paper Kite Productions, with Tzue noting the film explores how "two very different sisters" realize they are "more alike than different."
- Set for release later this year, Steps follows the sisters as they team up with Cinderella and a troll to save the kingdom and prove that even so-called "villains" deserve a "happily-ever-after.
