Great British Summer Savings Scheme Starts Today - Where You Can Claim Discounts
The government-backed scheme cuts prices on theme parks, cinemas and children’s meals, with some families saving tens of pounds per day out.
On Thursday, June 25, the government-backed 'Great British Summer Savings' scheme launched, offering temporary VAT reductions on family attractions, cinema tickets, and children's meals across the UK.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the £300 million package to ease household financial pressures, as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said families should afford 'moments that matter' with children during holidays.
Merlin Entertainments' Alton Towers now offers advance tickets from £29.75, down from £34, while The Odeon reduced family tickets from £32 to £28.50 and Nando lowered 'Nandino' meals from £6.95 to £6.08.
UK Hospitality chairwoman Kate Nicholls called the VAT cut 'the quickest and simplest way to lower prices and boost consumer confidence,' signaling broad industry support for the temporary measure.
Running until September 1, the scheme excludes season passes like Merlin annual tickets but includes free bus travel for children aged five to 15 in England during August school holidays.
