Altar-Ed Plans: US Midfielder Gets 1-Day Leave From World Cup Training for His Own Wedding
United States midfielder Brenden Aaronson skipped Friday's World Cup training session for his wedding. The 25-year-old left camp after Thursday's session and was due back in time for training Saturday.
Representing Leeds United in the Premier League, Aaronson is a key player for the United States squad. The Medford, New Jersey native hopes to help the team advance beyond the round of 16 this summer.
Coming from a soccer-focused family, Aaronson is marrying Milana Ambra, daughter of Saint Joseph men's soccer coach Don Ambra. His brother Paxten plays for the Colorado Rapids and sister Jaden played for Villanova.
This leave echoes 2016, when the United States team permitted Christian Pulisic to miss training to attend his Hershey High School prom. Pulisic returned in time for the Copa America match against Bolivia.
The USA makes its 11th World Cup appearance this year, beginning its campaign on June 12 against Paraguay in Inglewood, California. Matches against Turkey and Australia follow later in the group stage.
World Cup host USA is in the middle of preparation for the XXL tournament. A former Bundesliga pro temporarily leaves the training camp - for good reason.
