In the shimmering early summer heat of Xi'an, China's longest-serving ancient capital, six pomegranate trees stand gracefully near the venue for the inaugural China-Central Asia Summit held in May 2023, their branches bowing low with fruit.
The pomegranates, originally from Central and Western Asia, have found a special home in Xi’an, headquarters in 2023 of the China - Central Asia Summit. Following that meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping planted six of them at the Xi’an International Convention Center along with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as a gesture of friendship.
