Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg (Ap) has been clear that he is positive about a wealth tax, but a new proposal from the Ministry of Finance proposes changes.

The government has today submitted a proposal for consultation to introduce a permanent scheme for deferring payment of wealth tax. The proposal means that taxpayers can defer payment of wealth tax for up to three years, with effect from the income year 2026. The proposal was announced in the state budget for 2025 (Prop. 1 LS).
