American Mum-of-One Found Dead in Kerry Home Named as Gardaí Trace Man
Investigators say the 43-year-old suffered serious head injuries as gardai search for an asylum seeker suspect known to her.
On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Gardaí launched a murder investigation after finding 43-year-old American-born resident Jamey Carney dead in her Muckross Road home in Killarney, County Kerry.
Investigators believe Carney was beaten to death late Monday night, and she lay dead in her bed for up to 13 hours before her 13-year-old daughter raised the alarm to a family friend.
Gardaí are hunting a male suspect in his 20s known to the victim, with sources confirming "There is a major search for him" as he is believed to have fled the area.
Authorities appealed for witnesses in the Muckross Road area between the evening of July 6 and July 7, while local councillor John O'Donoghue described a "dark cloud" hanging over the town.
State Pathologist Dr. Linda Mulligan completed a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, while a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the ongoing inquiry.
