- Previously, online renewals had a daily cap of 2,000 applications, and access was limited to those whose passports were expiring soon or had already expired, forcing others to apply in person.
- To qualify, applicants must have a Canadian address, be older than 16 when they received their last passport, and upload a digital photo from a commercial photographer.
- Applicants using the online system should receive new travel documents within 20 days and track their application's progress in real time, Diab stated.
- The government guarantees fee reimbursements for applicants who wait more than 30 days to receive their documents, addressing backlogs created when pandemic-era travel restrictions eased.
