DeVaux said she wanted Golden Tempo judged on merit, not gender, after the horse won the Derby in a race where only 18 women have saddled an entrant.

- With 23-1 odds, Golden Tempo trailed the field of 18 horses through most of the race before a late surge allowed him to overcome Renegade, the betting favorite, in the final stretch.
- Jockey Jose Ortiz masterfully guided the horse through the pack, with DeVaux later telling NBC, "Jose did a masterful job at getting him there," while calling the entire experience "overwhelming."
- Skipping the Preakness, DeVaux and the owners set their sights on the Belmont Stakes on June 6 at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York.
- Reflecting on her legacy, DeVaux emphasized, "I've always said I'm a horse trainer that happens to be female," while acknowledging it is "an honor to be a person that other women or young women look up to.
