Algeria: Prime Minister Visits Bamako

Three weeks after the displacement of his Malian counterpart in Algiers, Sifi Ghrieb is expected in Mali, where he must meet with the head of the ruling junta, General Assimi Goïta, on Monday, 14 September. It remains to be seen whether, after several months of interference, this diplomatic ballet will lead to a real warming of relations between the two capitals.

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb began on Monday a visit to Bamako, Mali, a new sign of rapprochement between the two countries. Relations between the two neighbours had deteriorated sharply after the destruction, in early April 2025, by the Algerian army, of a Malian drone near Tin Zaoutine, on the border between the two countries.
