Alabama Targets Ill-Behaved Fan Who Hit Georgia Player In The Helmet For Potential Lifetime Ban From Stadium
The SEC is reviewing fan conduct after bottles and cans were thrown at Georgia players and Alabama said it is gathering information.
On Saturday, Alabama fans threw bottles and cans at Georgia players following the Bulldogs' 20-17 victory at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and video surfaced showing a fan striking Georgia linebacker Raylen Wilson during the team's exit.
Controversial officiating throughout the game, including a reversed interception and a non-call on a hit to receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, fueled fan frustration that culminated in the post-game debris shower.
Wilson later explained on Instagram he initially believed the fan, who struck his helmet and allegedly used the term "boy," was a supporter attempting to celebrate with him.
Alabama athletics stated Sunday it is "disappointed by the unacceptable behavior" and is "in the process of gathering information," while the SEC has not announced a penalty as of Monday.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has previously fined Tennessee, Texas, and LSU $250,000 each for similar fan conduct, stating such disruptions "cannot be repeated on any SEC campus" as the conference determines discipline.
