Medical Cannabis Board Reports on First Week of Sales, Reopens Lab Applications

Alabama's first legal medical cannabis provider, Callie's Apothecary, opened in Montgomery on June 4, serving over 100 patients in its first week following a "soft opening" the day prior.
As of Thursday, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission had issued 446 cannabis cards to patients, with 52 physicians certified to recommend treatment for about 15 medical conditions.
Justin Aday, general counsel for the commission, reported Thursday that 102 patients completed 111 transactions, generating about $14,600 in pre-tax sales with an average transaction of $131.56.
After receiving a second shipment on Thursday, owner Vince Schilleci lifted rationing, stating, "We've lifted the rationing now," so patients can purchase their full 60-day allotment.
Three additional licensed companies are expected to open storefronts this summer, potentially expanding geographic coverage as the AMCC works with processors to maintain product inventory variety.
