After Removing Nephew Akash Anand, Mayawati Appoints His Brother Ishan to Key BSP Post
Mayawati said Akash Anand will remain a party worker but not hold major responsibilities as the BSP tries to avoid further electoral losses.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati removed nephew Akash Anand from his role as national coordinator following a Thursday meeting, stripping him of major organizational responsibilities.
This marks the third instance in two years Mayawati has removed the 31-year-old from key posts, despite naming Akash her political successor in December 2023.
Sources within the BSP suggest Mayawati was unhappy with reports claiming Akash would influence 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly candidate selection, allegedly planted by his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth.
While Akash was absent from Thursday's meeting, younger brother Ishan Anand occupied the chair typically reserved for him, though the BSP has not confirmed any formal replacement.
Mayawati stated Akash remains a party worker but still 'needs to become more mature,' invoking BSP founder Kanshi Ram's preference against giving relatives formal party positions.

Akash Anand has written "supporter" instead of "BSP worker" in his bio. Mayawati's unfollow directive and the rumors of Ishaan Anand being given responsibility have exposed the shifting dynamics within the BSP.
