Ajinkya Rahane Joins Steve Waugh's Amsterdam Flames for ETPL
Steve Waugh’s personal approach convinced the former India captain to join the inaugural European T20 Premier League as a marquee player.
On Friday, former India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane signed for Amsterdam Flames as a marquee player in the inaugural European T20 Premier League , joining the competition designed to advance cricket's growth across Europe.
Steve Waugh, Co-Founder and Chief Cricket Officer of Amsterdam Flames, personally recruited Rahane immediately after the 38-year-old Mumbaikar announced his international retirement last month. "It's a great opportunity for me," Rahane said.
Rahane played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is for India, famously leading the team to a historic 2-1 Test series win in Australia during the 2020-21 summer after being bowled out for 36 in Adelaide's first Test.
Promoting European cricket's growth, Rahane highlighted the progress of teams like Ireland and the Netherlands. "Ireland or Netherlands turn up, they improve as a team," he noted regarding the league's development potential.
The ETPL runs from August 26 to September 20 across Dublin, Ireland, and The Hague, Netherlands. Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of Amsterdam Flames, said the signing establishes "the standards, culture and ambition that will define our club for years to come.
