EU Says Airlines Must Prove Fuel Shortages to Avoid Paying Compensation for Cancellations

With the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Ormuz, the prices of kerosene have gone away. Several airlines have been forced to abolish flights, sometimes with the increase in the price of fuel invoked as an "extraordinary circumstance" justifying the cancellation. An argument which, under European Regulation No 261/2004, exempts airlines from the obligation to compensate passengers.
