Smoke From Minnesota Wildfires Will Impact Becker, Otter Tail, Wadena and Hubbard Counties Through Friday
Smoke from more than 20 wildfires is expected to push hazardous air into the Twin Cities and other Minnesota communities, officials said.

- More than 20 wildfires ignited by lightning strikes and dry air during an ongoing heat wave forced the indefinite closure of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on Tuesday to protect visitors and firefighters.
- Hazardous smoke levels triggered an 'unhealthy for all' warning for the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, with Ryan Lueck of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency warning that "the body has a harder time dealing with both of those stressors at the same time."
- Authorities advise residents to "avoid prolonged or heavy exertion and stay indoors," particularly those with asthma or respiratory conditions, as smoke moves from northern Minnesota into central and southeastern regions by Wednesday evening.
- According to the MPCA, heavy smoke is expected to persist through Friday morning, though potential rain across the fires on Friday could reduce smoke output and improve air quality.
