- On July 7, 2026, the Royal Australian Air Force , the United States Air Force , and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force signed a Terms of Reference at Defence Establishment Fairbairn in Canberra, establishing the Trilateral Air Logistics Coordination Organization.
- RAAF Director General Airbase and Logistics Capability Air Commodore Natasia Pulford, Logistics Major General Elizabeth Arledge, and Major General Kunihiro Fujinaga led the agreement, aiming to improve future capability, sustainment, resilience, and strategic interoperability.
- Fujinaga noted the signing occurred on Tanabata, Japan's Star Festival, while Pulford highlighted the nations' shared commitment to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific, supported by their use of common platforms and similar logistics approaches.
- Arledge emphasized that the collaboration supports a free and open Indo-Pacific, strengthening the underlying industrial base through reciprocal training opportunities, which will influence future objectives for trilateral exercises such as Exercise Southern Cross.
- Southern Cross is slated to become a biennial exercise hosted by the RAAF, building upon ongoing trilateral development through the Trilateral Information Sharing Agreement and the Trilateral Air Cooperation Memorandum of Intent signed in June 2024.
