Air India plane from Kochi overshoots runway while landing in Mumbai airport, passengers safe
MUMBAI, INDIA, JUL 21 – Three tyres burst and the engine was damaged in the runway excursion during heavy monsoon rain, with all 133 passengers and crew disembarking safely, officials said.
- On July 21, 2025, Air India flight AI2744 from Kochi overshot the runway while landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport during heavy rain.
- The runway excursion occurred due to adverse weather, and the incident follows a major Air India crash more than a month earlier involving flight AI171 in Ahmedabad.
- The plane reached the terminal without incident, and everyone on board left the aircraft unharmed; meanwhile, the main runway 09/27 suffered minor damage.
- Following the incident, the secondary Runway 14/32 was put into use to keep operations running, the Airbus A320 was grounded for inspection, and all passengers and crew were confirmed safe.
