Hidden Voids Found in Egypt's Menkaure Pyramid
Non-destructive techniques revealed two air-filled voids under the eastern facade of the Menkaure Pyramid, supporting a long-standing hypothesis of a possible second entrance.
- On November 7, 2025, researchers from Cairo University and the Technical University of Munich identified two hidden air-filled voids behind the Menkaure Pyramid's eastern facade as part of the ScanPyramids project.
- The eastern facade polished granite area, four meters high by six meters wide, mirrors stones at the northern entrance and led Stijn van den Hoven, researcher, to propose a second entrance in 2019.
- Using advanced non-destructive scanning, the team deployed Ground Penetrating Radar with 200 and 600 MHz antennas, a 16-channel Ultrasonic Testing array, and Electrical Resistivity Tomography, then applied Image Fusion to correlate all data precisely.
- The research team plans to conduct further investigations to confirm the anomalies' significance and explore potential chambers without risking the pyramid’s integrity, said Christian Große.
- The ScanPyramids project has driven multiple breakthroughs by applying modern physics and imaging technologies, with previous successes including voids in the Great Pyramid of Khufu, advancing Fourth Dynasty engineering studies at the Giza necropolis.

Archaeologists Discover Hidden Voids In Egypt's Pyramid Of Menkaure
Christian Grosse, professor of non-destructive testing at TUM, explained that following the discovery of an unknown chamber in the Khufu Pyramid in 2023, ScanPyramids has made another important discovery at Giza.
A possible hidden entry into the Pyramid of Micerino, the third largest in the Guiza complex, was detected by a group of scientists from the University of Cairo and the Technical University of Munich. The discovery is part of the international ScanPyramids project, according to researchers on Friday, November 7.The discovery was concentrated on the east face of the pyramid, where granite blocks have been observed for years with an abnormally poli…
Air-Filled Voids Detected in Giza's Menkaure Pyramid Fuel Theory of Hidden Entrance
