Air defence units of Ukrainian companies start intercepting drones, minister says
Thirteen additional industrial enterprises are forming air defence units equipped to intercept hundreds of Russian drones daily, integrated under Ukraine’s Air Force command.
- On Monday, Ukraine's defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that the first industrial air defense units have begun combat duties, operating under Air Force coordination and integrated into the broader defense system.
- Last year, the government authorized energy, communications, and transport companies to acquire air defense equipment to improve effectiveness against persistent Russian drone attacks targeting industrial and energy infrastructure.
- According to the Ukrainian military, Russia launched 164 drones at Ukraine last night, with 150 intercepted, illustrating the scale of daily strikes targeting Ukrainian facilities.
- Fedorov reported on Telegram that units have downed several enemy drones in the Kharkiv region, including Shahed and Zala models, with units at varying stages of operational readiness.
- New units are currently forming at 13 additional enterprises as Fedorov added, "This is a system-level solution that enables the rapid expansion of air defence capabilities without placing an additional burden on frontline units.
