AI-powered defense system stops 5G cyber-attacks in a fraction of a second
An AI defense system has successfully detected and neutralized sophisticated 5G cyber-attacks in less than a tenth of a second, paving the way for more secure 5G and future 6G mobile networks, say researchers at the University of Surrey.
Researchers at the University of Surrey have built an AI system that they say can stop 5G cyber-attacks in less than a tenth of a second.
The system, called TwinGuard, watches a live virtual copy of the network and spots suspicious activity before it causes problems. In tests, it successfully blocked attacks that try to overwhelm mobile masts or flood network controllers with fake requests. Experts say this fast, smart defence will be key to keeping future 6G networks safe from hackers.
An Artificial Intelligence (IA) defense system has successfully detected and neutralized sophisticated 5G cyberattacks in less than a tenth of a second, paving the way for safer 5G and 6G mobile networks in the future. However, experts warn that reliance on automated models introduces own vectors, which require human control.
AI TwinGuard System Detects 5G Cyber-attacks In Milliseconds
Although modern 5G networks are becoming more open and flexible – making them easier to upgrade and less costly to deploy – this also increases potential entry points for cyber attackers. TwinGuard is said to address this challenge using a real-time digital twin, which is described as a live virtual replica of a mobile network that updates every few milliseconds. The team paired TwinGuard with reinforcement learning AI that can anticipate suspic…
