AI Is Creating A ‘Human Premium’—5 Career Skills Suddenly Worth More

LinkedIn and Visier research says employers are valuing judgment, communication and critical thinking more as AI handles routine cognitive work.

  • On July 10, Resume Now released a list of 10 'AI-proof' jobs, identifying roles less susceptible to automation due to their reliance on physical ability and real-time judgment in unpredictable environments.
  • Using data from the Occupational Information Network, Resume Now ranked 894 professions based on six human-centric abilities: stamina, spatial orientation, reaction time, strength, time sharing and problem sensitivity.
  • Airline pilots topped the list with a median annual wage of $232,140, followed by mining roof bolters at $78,540 and structural iron and steel workers at $62,780, demonstrating the financial premium on human oversight.
  • According to Resume Now career expert Keith Spencer, workers in these roles must 'recognize problems, interpret changing conditions and make decisions' in real-time, especially when significant danger is involved.
  • An August 2025 FlexJobs survey found 62% of professionals would switch to blue-collar roles for better pay and stability, while experts say human skills like critical thinking remain 'key to future success' amid AI adoption.
