AI firm Cohere raises US$500 million, giving business US$6.8 billion valuation

Toronto-based Cohere raised $500 million at a $6.8 billion valuation to accelerate secure, business-focused agentic AI development, doubling its annual recurring revenue to $100 million in 2025.

  • On Thursday , Toronto-based AI firm Cohere announced a US$500 million funding round at a US$6.8 billion valuation.
  • Cohere, a Toronto-based AI startup, competes with OpenAI, Google and Elon Musk’s xAI to develop large language models and trains models on clients’ internal data, last week making North widely available.
  • The funding was co-led by Radical Ventures and Inovia Capital, with investors including AMD Ventures, Nvidia, PSP Investments, Salesforce Ventures and the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, since September 2019 raising about US$1.5 billion.
  • Cohere also hired Joelle Pineau, chief AI officer , and Francois Chadwick, chief financial officer .
  • Having doubled its ARR to $100 million in 2025, Cohere says the funds will accelerate its efforts to build agentic AI products.
