Thailand Secures $43.6bn 1H 2026 Investment Surge as Big Tech Accelerates Southeast Asia AI Infrastructure Push

The digital sector accounted for 1.12 trillion baht, or more than three-quarters of total applications, as foreign investors expanded AI and data-center projects.

  • On Thursday, the Thailand Board reported receiving 1,299 applications worth 1.47 trillion baht in the first six months of 2026, with foreign direct investment bids targeting 877 projects, said BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi.
  • Digital sector projects, primarily artificial intelligence and data centers, accounted for 1.12 trillion baht, as companies including Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Google announced major infrastructure expansions in Thailand.
  • Aside from digital projects, electronics applications reached 120.2 billion baht, followed by agriculture and food processing at 61.4 billion baht, logistics at 40.2 billion baht, and automotive projects at 25.7 billion baht.
  • Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul aims to revitalize the economy as approved projects are expected to create more than 82,000 jobs and generate annual exports exceeding 1.24 trillion baht.
  • While these figures reflect strong investor confidence, the Board notes that applications are not guaranteed spending, and external pressures like energy costs from the War in the Middle East persist.
