Ahead of Alien: Earth, FX Exec Insists the Alien Franchise Doesn't Have to Fit Together Like the MCU: 'Fans Don't Expect That in This Universe'
EARTH, JUL 24 – FX's Alien: Earth reimagines the Alien universe with a hybrid protagonist and a corporate-controlled Earth, aiming to be a major hit with a production budget rivaling $250 million, Variety said.
- FX will premiere Alien: Earth, its first TV series in the Alien franchise, on August 12 in the U.S. and August 13 internationally on Disney+.
- The series stems from Noah Hawley's eight-year-old outline and abandons the prequel storyline, existing in parallel to the films and focusing on original lore.
- Set during the Corporate Era, Alien: Earth follows a Weyland-Yutani vessel that crashes on Prodigy Corporation land, featuring a synthetic-human hybrid named Wendy among its cast.
- FX describes the production as larger than Shogun with hopes it will become the next Game of Thrones or The Last of Us, and Hawley says Season 1 is a proof of concept for a possible multi-season run.
- The series is designed as a recurring show with big plans if commercially successful, implying Seasons 2 through 5 could follow depending on audience reception.
