Four out of ten citizens believe that unification is impossible, marking the highest level in the 20 years since surveys on public opinion began. Amidst hostile perceptions toward North Korea and compounded by skepticism regarding U.S. support in the event of a crisis, anxiety among citizens regarding the situation on the Korean Peninsula appears to be spreading.
A poll conducted in South Korea showed that 39% of participants considered reunification with North Korea necessary. 32.2% said reunification was not necessary, while 39.1% thought it was impossible. 78.3% believed that dialogue and reconciliation with North Korea were not possible.
