United Plane Headed From Newark to South Africa Turns Around Mid-Flight, Returns to N.J.

The Boeing 787-9 flight with 236 passengers turned back after four hours mid-Atlantic due to a passenger medical emergency, landing safely in Newark, United said.

A United Airlines flight from Newark to South Africa turned around about four hours into the flight and returned to New Jersey after a passenger had a medical issue, officials said. Port Authority Police received a report of an unresponsive woman on the flight. The woman was alert and conscious when the plane landed and emergency workers boarded. She was brought to an area hospital to be treated.
